Obedience Training

Doran's Basic Obedience Course is a two week course in which we board and do the training. By having the dog stay with us, we are able to work the dog three to five times each day. When the dog becomes bored we put the dog back to rest. Later, we can get the dog out again relaxed and refreshed. They make faster progress with short, fun training sessions. During the second week of training, we have the owners in for three 40 minute work sessions so we can transfer the work from us to the owners. This is normally on the tenth, twelfth and fourteenth day of the training. The dog should return home with the owners at the end of the fourteenth day. We ask that the owners come in for at least two free follow-up sessions during the coming weeks so that we can catch any problems before they become habits; this way we can continue to upgrade the work. We are pleased if the owners come in for additional free follow-up sessions.

Dogs learn the commands 'heel', 'sit', 'down', 'stay', 'come', 'no' and 'go lay down'. In addition the dogs learn not to jump up on people. Other dog specific problems can be addressed at the discretion of the customer. The dogs are worked 3-5 times per day by the same trainer. The training takes place both indoors and outdoors, weather permitting. This is considered an on-leash training course, with the exception of the outdoor recall, or 'come' command.
